Apartment Fire in The Golfcrest / Bellfort / Reveille Area WHAT: Apartment Fire WHEN: April 21, 2021 at 9:53 p.m. WHERE: 7098 Dixie, 77087 INJURIES: No reported injuries. PROPERTY SAVED: $210 thousand in estimated property saved. DAMAGE: $55 thousand in estimated damage. CAUSE: Failure of equipment or heat source. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters in Station 26 smelled smoke and discovered that a nearby apartment was on fire. They arrived on scene and made an aggressive attack. Crews ventilated the roof and pulled ceiling. The fire was quickly controlled and was determined to be accidental in nature. An electrical short from a kitchen vent hood ignited grease and oil build-up which then traveled up into the attic. The attic was heavily damaged and the power was cut to all of the apartment units in the building. Firefighters from Stations 23, 26, 46, 35, 40 and 29 responded to this incident.
