Mayor Turner Announces Plans for Family Day In the Park, 2021 Event Focuses on Food Distribution HOUSTON – Mayor Sylvester Turner and the City of Houston have reimagined the annual “Family Day in the Park” and will host a food distribution in northwest Houston on Saturday, April 17.
The free Family Day Food Distribution drive-through will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Harris Academy, 3130 Holder Forest Drive. All vehicles must enter Holder Forest via T.C. Jester. No registration is required.
Last year’s Family Day in the Park was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and this year’s drive-through distribution will take place with social distancing and safety protocols. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the mayor has participated in several food distributions. He recognizes that each donation makes a significant difference in the lives of families, especially seniors and parents with young children.

“I, like so many in Acres Homes, have been missing the fun and fellowship at our annual Family Day at Sylvester Turner Park,” said Mayor Turner. “We can’t gather in large groups just yet so the next best thing is to provide some of the same food we have at Family Day plus a whole lot more.”
Each family in a vehicle will be provided: a hot meal of a turkey leg and two sausages on a stick; a box of produce; a bag with boxed and canned goods; a case of water; and masks. Distribution is on a first-come, first-served basis and will continue until all product has been distributed.
“The Family Day Food Distribution wouldn’t be possible without the support of our many volunteers and sponsors,” Mayor Turner said. “I want to thank each of them for their generous participation in this event.”
The Family Day Food Distribution is produced by the Greater North Houston Youth Alliance and the Mayor’s Office of Special Events. Sponsors include: AT&T, Amazon, Burns Original BBQ, CenterPoint Energy, City of Houston Police and Parks and Recreation Departments, Comcast Internet Essentials, Hosea Helps, Houston Astros Foundation, Houston Food Bank, KTSU Radio, Metro, Plumbers Local 68, Skanska, Stantec, TDC Premier Trucking and Village Medical.
Earlier this week, city of Houston employees and other volunteers packaged boxes of food that will be distributed during Family Day.
